who am I....?

As the name suggests, I'm Cheryl and I'm based in Northern Ireland.
I'm a mum to two beautiful girls and it's because of my eldest daughter that I became infatuated with cakes!
I've always loved baking and I had a fantastic teacher in my Nannie.
Just over a year ago my decorating skills consisted in slapping a bit of buttercream and jam onto one of my sandwich cakes an hour before I was due to serve it up.
For my daughter's 2nd birthday I decided I wanted to make her a Minnie Mouse cake, and the obsession was born! I wanted to buy her one but was fed up with getting cakes from certain big name supermarkets and everyone having the same one. I know that birthdays aren't all about the cake but it's the one time of year that you get to have a whole cake for YOU! Even if I had wanted one of the shop cakes, I couldn't get one that I liked. Besides, I was put off by the fact that they have been mass produced and must have some sort of preservatives in them to be able to stay on the shelves for so long and still be 'fresh'. I did some basic research on the art of cake decoration and thought "Yes, I can make a decent cake, so all I have to do is make it look like Minnie!" (easier said than done!) After three days of blood, sweat, tears and many many pieces of mashed up sugarpaste, Minnie was born and a very excited 2 year old blew out the candles on mummy's first sugarcraft cake.
not bad for a first attempt!
Since then I've had friends and family asking me to make them cakes, which I do happily, and it gives me a great excuse to feed my addiction without having to eat the end product. All that means a happy me and an even happier waistline! (It's a sin to throw away cake dontcha know!)
I just want to say a big BIG thanks to my very understanding hubby who puts up with my endless research on the computer whilst pretending to watch the latest instalment of our favourite programme, and supports me through my tantrums when I can't get something exactly right first time. I must say, his 'ducking' skills have improved at a greater rate than my sugarcraft skills!
Another big thanks to everyone that has trusted me to make them one of my cakes and let me be a part of their special day.
I think that's all I want to say at the minute, I'm rubbish at writing these things! So, if there is anything you'd like to know, please get in touch. I'd love to hear from you.
